Could Di María Come Out of Retirement for the 2026 World Cup?
Di María retired after winning it all — but Argentina might not be done with him just yet.
Argentina legend Ubaldo Fillol thinks so — and a comeback could be exactly the boost Messi needs.
Angel Di María retired from international football after the 2024 Copa America, saying he had "conquered everything" with Argentina. But according to 1978 World Cup winner Ubaldo Fillol, talks are already underway to bring him back for one last dance in North America.
"I found out that the coaching staff and some players are talking to him to come back," Fillol revealed. "He is one of the players I believe will be there — I think they will convince him."
The case for his return is hard to ignore. Back home at Rosario Central, the 38-year-old has been nothing short of sensational — 10 goals and 4 assists in 22 appearances. Fillol went as far as comparing his current form favorably to Messi, arguing the Argentine league is far more demanding than MLS.
With Di María on the pitch alongside Messi, Argentina's title defence would look a whole lot more formidable.
