Official: Tuchel Commits Long-Term Future to England
England had a historic qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup—8 wins, 0 goals conceded.
The English Football Association (FA) has officially announced a contract extension for head coach Thomas Tuchel. The German has signed a new deal that will keep him in charge until the end of Euro 2028, which will be hosted on home soil. His previous agreement was set to expire after the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada this summer, but the "Three Lions'" excellent performance in the qualifiers quickly convinced the FA to secure the specialist long-term. England qualified as the undisputed number one in their group, winning all eight matches and incredibly not conceding a single goal.
“I am very happy and proud to extend my stay with England. It is no secret that I have truly enjoyed every minute of working with the players and my assistants, and I cannot wait to lead them at the World Cup. This is an incredible opportunity, and we will do everything possible to make the whole country proud. I have had immense support from FA CEO Mark Bullingham, all my colleagues at the Football Association, and the fans wherever we go. I did not hesitate for a moment when asked to continue this dream job. Euro 2028 will be a very special tournament, and as a coach, there is nothing more important than facing the biggest teams on the highest stage,” Tuchel stated regarding the new contract.
According to local media, one of the reasons for this surprising early extension is the rising speculation linking Tuchel with several major European clubs; he was notably considered a favorite for the Manchester United manager position. At the upcoming 2026 World Cup, England has been drawn into a group with Croatia, Ghana, and Panama.
