Van Nistelrooy Returns to Coaching as Netherlands Assistant Ahead of World Cup
Van Nistelrooy is back in the dugout — and this time, the stage doesn't get any bigger.
A familiar face joins Koeman's backroom staff — just in time for the biggest tournament in football.
Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed as Ronald Koeman's assistant coach at the Netherlands, the Dutch FA confirmed. The 49-year-old's first task? Helping guide an unbeaten Oranje side through a World Cup campaign this summer.
It's a fresh start for Van Nistelrooy after a difficult spell at Leicester City, where he won just four of 25 matches before the Foxes were relegated. His record at PSV tells a different story — 22 wins from 33, a KNVB Cup and a Johan Cruyff Shield — and it's that version of the coach Koeman will be counting on.
He begins immediately, with Netherlands facing Norway and Ecuador in March friendlies ahead of their Group F campaign in the US.
